A Review of Hornfans
Hornfans is primarily a football message board covering the University of Texas Longhorns. Aside from football, there is an active and spirited support for the baseball team and good support for the basketball team.
But, as many of the posters either went to Texas or live in Austin, there is a strong community of posters who will discuss anything from God (see the Quackenbush philosophy board), popular culture (Cactus Cafe), and politics (the West Mall) to sexual exploits of youth (largely others on Austin 3:16).
For those politically inclined, the West Mall at hornfans replicates the treelined pedestrian street that stretches from the Tower to the Union on the campus of the University of Texas. The West Mall is legendary for the diversity of political views represented.
Unlike the genuine article, Hornfan's West Mall creates a forum where those differing views actually interact. The posters on the West Mall are predominantly liberal, which is reflective of the University and of Austin in general. But, there is also a good number of conservative voices and a large number of libertarians who post regularly on the board.
The idoits [stet] on the left outnumber the idiot conservatives and libertarians, but that is more a function of their dominant numbers. It is also reflective of current popular culture, which creates passionate, but uniformed neophyte posters.
Almost every current popular political topic is discussed - some better than others.
Today, there is a continuing long thread on the impact of deregulation on energy prices. If you have ever wondered what goes into calculating the energy cost on your utility bill, this thread is a must: http://forums.hornfans.com/php/wwwthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=westmall&Number=4305355&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=
